Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton

Tears in Heaven is a ballad composed by Eric Clapton, published in 1992 and written with Will Jennings.

The song is dedicated to Conor, son of the singer and the Italian showgirl Lory Del Santo; the child died tragically at the age of only 4 in 1991, falling from the 53rd floor of a New York building where he was visiting with his mother.

The single is one of Clapton's most successful songs, and in 1993 won three Grammy Awards: Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Male Voice Interpretation. The song was also dedicated to the victims of the 2004 tsunami and performed by several celebrities.

Language Notes:

The song has a syntax based on the 2nd conditional: would + verb, if + simple past
I don't belong = non è il mio posto
help + someone + verb is preferably used without the "to" of the infinitive, as with let and make and some verbs of perception (see, hear etc)
(time can) have you begging please = spingerti a chiedere "per favore". Have + object+ verb is a causative expression, along with let, make, get, used to render the Italian "fare+infinito".
